Sunbaking

Whenever they can spare some time in their busy schedules, Jack and Ivy love to chill out and catch some rays. They don't get much access to sunlight in their terrarium, so whenever possible they venture to the window sill in the study and bask in the warmth. I may have to investigate the possibility of getting some lizard coconut oil to help them develop their tans...

Hi Jack!

I thought this was a cute pic of Jack, peering over Aaron's hand. This perspective also gives you a good view of the shape of their heads - hence the name Angle Headed Dragon. :)

Rock-a-bye Baby in the Tree Tops....

Another pic of Jack sleeping...just because he is so cute!!
He seems to love cuddling up to the stick at the front of the terrarium...doesn't look very comfy to me, but he likes it!

Just Because...

I am just posting this photo because I like it. This was the day I had to be home for the plumbers to fix our bathroom, so I was killing time by playing with the babies...

Weigh In Time - 3

Well another month has passed, and you know what that means...weigh in time!!
Jack and Ivy have upgraded their diet from small to medium sized crickets, and they have been eating more cockroaches lately as well.
All of this eating as led to a lot of growth, as the following pictures demonstrate...
Jack weighing in at a massive 10grams. Fatty boombalada!
Jack, measuring approximately 14-15cm in length.
Ivy weighing in at a slightly lighter 9grams.

Ivy measuring approximately 16-17cm in length.
So as you can see, while Jack is still a bit of a fatty compared to Ivy, the Ivestar has caught up in length and her tail seems to be a bit longer than Jack's.

They spent the afternoon basking in the sun today and were quite hard to catch to put back in their terrarium because they were full of energy. Lizard energy = lots of running and jumping!!

Never wake a sleeping dragon

I got home tonight to find our babies fast asleep at the front of the terrarium, it was the cutest thing ever!! I was very mean and thoughtless and turned the light on, not realising they would be sound asleep, and this is what I saw... (Ivy started opening her eyes at the bright lights, sorry Ivy!)

Little Jack, sound asleep.

Little Ninjas

This weekend Jack and Ivy went on an epic adventure to Aaron's Dad's house in their new Flexarium (photos to come, you'll have to cope with the suspense..sorry!!). Whilst out in the big bad world outside of our apartment, Ivy once again demonstrated some pretty clever ninja-like skills in the area of camouflage. I am putting her transformation in colour down to her adapting to suit her environment, as well as a change in mood, but it is strange that Jack does not change nearly as much as Ivy.

As you can see from the following pictures, (pre-outing is the top picture, post-outing are the bottom 2), Ivy became a lot darker after her adventure. Her legs are almost black, and the tips of her crest all turned black as well.

Pretty cool huh?

Visitors from afar!

Jack and Ivy had a full social calendar on Saturday! Not only did Aunty Fea pop in for another visit, two other visitors drove all the way from Canberra to meet the dragons, Aunty Julie and Dale! At first Julie was a little apprehensive about touching the lizards, but her desire to make it to the world-famous blog was so strong that she overcame her fears.

As they continue to grow, Jack and Ivy's confidence and energy also seems to grow, and they have recently been a lot more active and jumpy around people and aren't playing dead as much. I am interpreting this increased energy and jumping capability as an indication of their excitement at seeing people, and not as an enhanced desire to escape.

Thank you for paying our babies a visit!!

Uncle Josh comes to visit

Where, where, where, where's Ivy? (To the tune of Where's Wally ;) )
Last week Jack and Ivy were paid their first visit by their uncle Josh! Here is a pic of Ivy doing her best to camouflage into Josh's jacket sleeve...

Weigh In Time - 2

A month has passed since Jack and Ivy took their last adventure to the scales. A lot has happened in a month - lots of visitors and the arrival of brand new skin! Since they shed their skin they have been looking more grown up and less like babies, so it was definitely time for an update on their weight and length.

First to scales was Ivy:

As you can see from this pic, Ivy has gained 1gram over the past month. This means she has put on 20% of her body weight since her last weigh in... go Ivy! Those crickets, cockroaches, mini meal worms and Daddy Longlegs' have done their job!

It is difficult to judge the length of the lizards, but she appeared to be around 13cm in length, a gain of 1cm:

Next up to the scales was Jack. Jack is looking noticeably bigger, so we were expecting a substantial increase in his weight...

...but who would have thought he would put on 40% of his body weight in one month! 7grams, what a fatty! Look how high his crest sticks up on his neck too..

Once again, tricky to measure length, but I think he is approx 13cm.

That's all for now,

Sal
